There is only one female U.S. Representative in Orange County – Loretta Sanchez, and we have only two female state legislators in Orange County – State Senator Mimi Walters and Assemblywoman Diane Harkey. But we also have a lot of women involved in locally elected positions, as well as two women on the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
Not all of these women, unfortunately, are committed to the principles of freedom and limited government, but some of them are and others are at least known for the causes they represent and their overall body of work. My personal favorite is Laguna Hills Councilwoman Barbara Kogerman, who last year was named “Best Gadfly” in Orange County, by the OC Weekly, for her work that uncovered “lavish pay, benefits and pensions throughout local governments in the county. Her investigative work was later validated by the grand jury, The Orange County Register and government watchdog groups that have lavished her with awards.”
