It is turning out to be an awful night for the Democrats as the execrable Hillary Clinton appears to be losing to her Republican challenger, Donald Trump. Meanwhile here in Orange County the early results are in and top Democratic challengers Sharon Quirk-Silva and Josh Newman appear to be losing in their respective legislative races. Here is a rundown of the top early results thus far: Continue reading

The OC GOP’s Central Committee has endorsed awful City Council candidates Nagel and Kring
The OC GOP is about to get pummeled in the upcoming November General Election, thanks to their party’s horrific Presidential nominee, Donald Trump. But the party machinery is still going through the motions. This week the OC GOP’s Endorsement Committee and Central Committee made a few truly awful endorsements, as detailed by the OC Political Blog, here and here.
Probably the worst of their endorsements was that of Fountain Valley Councilman Steve Nagel, who was a Fountain Valley firefighter from 1977-2005. Continue reading
Orange County lobbyist Curt Pringle’s client list revealed at last
Remember Curt Pringle? The former Mayor of Anaheim has been very busy at his lobbying firm, Curt Pringle & Associates. As they have been reluctant to release their full client list (maybe it’s too much work?) Sean Paden has decided to help them out. Below is a list of every client that Paden could confirm from an internet search and the source. The list may not be complete but it is a darn good effort
Some of these clients are high profile, others are below the radar: Vulcan Industries, for example is apparently the largest supplier of gravel in Southern California (so if a construction project gets built there’s a good chance they’ll make money on it); Mobilite/ Mobilite of Newport Beach is a cell phone tower company, Jamboree Housing recently obtained bond funding from the City of Fullerton for a $5 million low income housing project (approved on March 18, 2014). Disney, Pringle and the OCTaxPAC got punked in the 2014 General Election
Disney poured at least $671,000 into political action committees financing the city council campaigns of Anaheim City Council candidates Gail Eastman and Kris Murray in the NOv. 4, 2014 General Election, according to the Voice of OC. At least one Disney-supported PAC spent $136,925 on campaign ads against two challengers, Jose F. Moreno and James Vanderbilt, according to campaign records, as reported by the OC Register.
John Lewis, a former state senator and assemblyman who is working as a campaign consultant for Vanderbilt and Mayor Tait, said Disney is using its financial clout to ensure that a $320 million streetcar is built. The project would connect Disneyland to a a transit hub near Angel Stadium, according to the OC Register.
For Disney it was worth spending $671K if they could ensure that they could rip off the people of Anaheim with a $320M streetcar the city doesn’t need. Continue reading
Janet makes OC Weekly’s ‘Scariest People’ List
The writers and editors at OC Weekly just published their annual list of OC’s Scariest People 2014! Scary People to Avoid in the Dark! Coming in 22nd is 1st District Supervisor, 34th District Senate candidate and FBI suspect Janet Nguyen — our own choice last year for the most corrupt Supervisor on the five-member Board (followup here). The Weekly’s take:
22. JANET NGUYEN
Amazingly, this is Janet Nguyen’s first time on this list, despite a career swarming with scary accomplishments. We’re finally convinced she might be an actual vampire. Think about it: Her social sensibilities are centuries old. She somehow hypnotizes thousands of people to vote for her despite having no accomplishments or fan base. There’s barely any garlic in her Stanton sandwich shop, and somehow, she’s semi-successfully running for state Senate against Jose Solorio despite her mismanagement of CalOptima, Orange County’s medical-care program for the poor and elderly. Supporters are currently under investigation for alleged money laundering to fund her Board of Supervisors campaigns. Has anyone ever seen her wear silver?
Mitigating Factor: Nguyen’s the only person capable of killing the werewolf that is Van Thai Tran.
Pettibone forced out of the Anaheim City Council race by awful attack on his family
A supporter of Anaheim Councilwoman Kris Murray and Mayoral candidate Lucille Kring, named Lisa Burnett Lewis, did the unthinkable this week. She dredged up sealed court records and threatened Anahcim City Council candidate Doug Pettibone, in a scathing email message sent to the Anaheim City Clerk. The email was outed by the publisher of the LiberalOC blog, who has always supported mayoral challenger Lorri Galloway, in past Anaheim elections.
Pettibone apparently went through a bad divorce 16 years ago and he was charged with domestic battery but ultimately the charges were dismissed and the entire mess was supposedly sealed.
Pettibone is now friendly with his ex wife and she was supporting his City Council campaign.
The Orange Juice blog broke the story down in an in-depth post you can read here. Continue reading
