John Moorlach for the 45th Congressional District?

In what might be best describes as an “exploratory effort” at this stage, conservative Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach called me late yesterday to share with me that after discussing it with his family he has decided to explore a run for the 45th Congressional District seat. Specifically Moorlach said that he would be spending the next month out meeting with folks and working to raise funds, with a goal of trying to put over $100,000 into an account. If he can do this, Moorlach says he’s all in. Moorlach. Moorlach’s decision to seek the House seat seems to have ended speculation about what the termed out Supervisor would do at this point — he’d been actively looking at either a run for County Auditor-Controller, or a run for State Assembly (if Assemblyman Allan Mansoor pulls the trigger and announces a bid for Supervisor).

CA GOP Congressman Campbell to retire; will tax pledge become issue for Mimi Walters??

Orange County GOP Congressman John Campbell announced he would not seek re-election next year on the Hugh Hewett radio show this week. Campbell, whose votes were generally conservative in the Congress, nevertheless had problems with local Republican activists during his term, who were upset by his votes in favor of Federal assistance to the automotive industry, (“TARP”) and by his stand-offish style in refusing to meet with many Republican volunteers who had requested face-time over the years, people who are the front-line of the Party’s “get out the vote” efforts, and whom Campbell should have given some better appreciation.

Campbell, who owned some automobile dealerships, was not a thoroughly popular figure at Orange County Republican Central Committee meetings either, and the Central Committee once narrowly voted to deny him it’s endorsement for re-election. His faulty, almost vainly, arrogant style may have been absorbed by the GOP Leadership in the Congress as well, which denied him any significant Committee Chairmanship assignment during his years in office, or any significant individual legislative accomplishment. Did you notice that Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang, who is the Democratic nominee for the 45th Congressional District, got stiffed by his own party at Tuesday night’s huge rally at UCI, which featured former President Bill Clinton?

How awful for Kang! He was overlooked by the Democratic Party of California in his own backyard! Clinton rallied the troops for five other Democratic Congressional candidates, but Kang got blown off! How did this happen? Continue reading→

Will the Great Park’s budget fiaco sink Krom’s and Kang’s campaigns?

Great Park Neighborhoods developer Heritage Fields El Toro is seeking to more than double the number of homes surrounding the Orange County Great Park, according to the Voice of OC. They also reported that “the developer is proposing to build 10,700 residential units, far more than the 4,894 units already approved by the Irvine City Council. The developer would reduce the area dedicated to nonresidential uses to mitigate the impacts of the new homes.”

Why did the Great Park’s Board of Directors vote to greatly increase the number of homes at the Great Park? Simple. Developer Fees. And you can bet that some of those fees will find their way back to Great Park Board Member Beth Krom’s campaign for Irvine Mayor, and Irvine Council Member Sukhee Kang’s Congressional campaign. Don’t forget that Kang is a member of the Great Park’s Board, and Krom is their Board Chairman. Continue reading→

69th A.D. Republican candidate Hammond is now an honorary Agranista

When U.S. Rep. John Campbell failed this week to get the OC GOP endorsement, by one vote, who would have figured that the culprit was a veritable Benedict Arnold? That’s right – Republican 69th Assembly District candidate Robert Hammond, who was endorsed by Campbell, failed to return the favor, according to the OC Political blog. Hammond voted AGAINST endorsing Campbell.

This of course makes Hammond an honorary “Agranista,” as Campbell is running against liberal Irvine Mayor Sukhee Kang, who is of course part of Democratic Irvine Council Member Larry Agran’s “Agranista” cabal. I am sure Agran and Kang will be sending Hammond a couple of gift baskets. Continue reading→
