Off-Year Voter Registration Report: Fewer Voters Registering with Political Parties in California

SACRAMENTO – The percentage of California voters registered with a political party decreased from 78.9% to 77.1% since this time two years ago, according to a California Secretary of State report published today.

The newly released registration report shows 75.7% of eligible Californians are registered to vote. While that percentage is down since the 2012 presidential election, when 76.7% of eligible Californians were registered to vote, it is up from 72.8% at this same time two years ago. Decline to State voters in California may soon surpass the dwindling Republican Party.  If you are a Decline to State or Independent voter, and you’re wondering who to vote for in the June 5 Open Primary Election, then look no further.  As is my custom, I like to present my personal election picks – with my comments of course. We’ll start with the U.S. Congress:

U.S. Senate – I have never been a fan of Senator Dianne Feinsten, but the GOP has never been able to displace her.  I suspect they will fail again this year, but I am going to endorse Elizabeth Emken and hope for the best.  I like her focus on cutting government waste.  And she is a parent of a child with autism – a subject she speaks about with authority.  She is also a UCLA grad which I can appreciate as my oldest son is a freshman at UCLA this year. New voter data shows the Republican Party is dying in California

SACRAMENTO – Secretary of State Debra Bowen today published the latest statewide voter  registration report, which shows a  higher percentage of eligible Californians are registered to  vote since this time four years ago while fewer than ever are indicating a political party  preference.
The 60-day Report of Registration shows more than 17 million Californians are registered to  vote, 21.3 percent of whom chose no party preference – a new all-time high.  The previous  record high of unaffiliated voters was 21.2 percent, reported in the Secretary’s last Report of  Registration three months ago.
