Hispanic 100 Endorses Emanuel Patrascu for Assembly
Updated: Curry/Gilliard Go Negative, and Racist?
Going negative in a political campaign might mean a few things — it’s logical for a candidate who may be losing ground and needs to just dig his opponent with facts or past history that’s uncomplimentary. Unknowns use the technique to gain attention and notice when their opponents are better known and recognizable from previous exposure in the media. Or a candidate might just be unscrupulous.
In the 74th Assembly District race, to be fair, Emanuel Patrascu started the cycle by correctly pointing out that his opponent, former Newport Beach Mayor and Lincoln Club Boardmember Keith Curry was trying to shoo the beach fire rings out of NB and keep the undesirables away from the shore-front properties of his city’s very wealthy land and boat owners around Balboa Island and Newport Bay. Everywhere we look these days, we see signs of the changing seasons. The weather is getting warmer and warmer, every day feeling like a great beach day. Keith Curry takes a bullet for CAHSR
As the slates and mailers roll out, Newport Beach Councilman Keith Curry won’t be hiding from his past recommendations for TAX HIKES in support of Jerry Brown’s Bullet Train (Chris Reed has a terrific piece here about the Browndoggle).
The images here will be hitting the 74th Assembly District next week, as Curry’s opponent, Emanuel Patrascu, keeps reminding him how he and his firm, Public Financial Management advised the High Speed Rail Authority to pursue “a 5-cent increase in the statewide gas tax could raise more than $770 million a year over 35 years,” according to an April 1996 issue of The Bond Buyer.
