Assemblyman Travis Allen’s Legislation to Crack Down on “Scam Charities” Passes Unanimously Out of the Assembly
Bill will protect individuals who donate to charity and ensure the integrity of California’s nonprofit organizations

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach) announced that his proposal, Assembly Bill 2077, which cracks down on “scam charities,” passed unanimously out of the Assembly with bipartisan support and will now be heard in the Senate.

“AB 2077 will ensure that the good will of Californians is not taken advantage of, and also fortify the integrity of legitimate nonprofits throughout California,” said Assemblyman Travis Allen. “Scam charities have been defrauding seniors and other Californians without actually giving the funds to those in need. It’s unacceptable that when an individual is tricked into giving their hard-earned money to one of these scam charities that only 3 percent of their funds reach the intended beneficiary.” Continue reading→
