Bipartisan Anti-Corruption Measure Killed By Senate Appropriations Committee
Assembly Bill 2065 sought to protect legislative employees who report unethical behavior
SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore, announced today her bill, Assembly Bill 2065, jointly authored with Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia, D-Bell Gardens, and Jeff Gorell, R-Camarillo, died in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
“In light of recent scandals that have resulted in the suspension of three Senators in this year alone, I am truly disappointed and frankly quite shocked that my Senate colleagues chose to deny a measure to improve the integrity of this body.” said Melendez. “The Legislature has a responsibility to uphold the public’s trust by creating an atmosphere of transparency.
