The Orange County bankruptcy case has finally closed

County of Orange Credit Ratings Upgraded, Bankruptcy Case Closed

Santa Ana, Calif. (November 16, 2024) – This week the County of Orange received an upgrade in its
Issuer Default Rating (IDR) from Fitch Ratings to AAA and a reaffirmation of its Issuer Credit Rating (ICR)
from S&P Global Ratings of AA+. In addition, on November 8, the United States Bankruptcy Court
granted the County’s Motion for Order to close the County’s 1994 bankruptcy case.

“The County of Orange should be extremely proud of its fiscal standing and how we’ve fully recovered
from the 1994 bankruptcy,” said Chairman Andrew Do, First District. “This is a result of the prudent
stewardship by this Board of Supervisors, our past Boards and by the dedicated professional staff of the

Sen. John Moorlach Cautions Legislature on Projected Surplus

Sen. John M.W. Moorlach, R-Costa Mesa, comments on the Legislative Analyst’s (LAO) new report, “The 2019-20 Budget: California’s Fiscal Outlook”:

The LAO is optimistic about nearly $15 billion in additional resources to allocate after putting another $15 billion into the Rainy Day fund. The report concedes its November 2000 projection of a $10.3 billion estimated surplus for 2001-02 was crushed by the dot-com bust and ensuing recession. We know how that ended. Continue reading→

Former OC Weekly Editor Gustavo Arellano opined in a recent L.A. Times op-ed, that the OC GOP is dead. Well it may be too soon to declare the Republican Party of Orange County dead but it is most certainly on life support.

Rohrabacher Leading By Nine Points Over Rouda In Latest CA-48 Survey By TPStrat Research

Rohrabacher has taken a significant lead in the race for CA-48, breaking the 50% threshold this week, despite TPStrat’s statewide generic ballot testing revealing a heavy Democratic advantage. Thus far the 48th CD appears to be immune to such negative gravity. Trump is popular, Republicans are winning the generic ballot and there is a slight edge for the amount of voters who want Trump’s agenda to be pushed in Congress. This seat is proving reliably red with a large R+10 Republican registration advantage giving Rohrabcher a large cushion to absorb a generally unfavorable climate for Republicans nationally. Rouda is winning with No-Party-Preference voting bloc with 49.9% to Rohrabacher’s 42.9%. Rohrabacher is winning with women with a commanding lead at 51.8% to Rouda’s 40.9%. Continue reading→
