Anaheim City Council candidate Duane Roberts

Fourteen candidates ran for two seats on the Anaheim City Council in 2010. This time nine candidates have qualified for the ballot, including several that ran unsuccessfully in 2010 – John Leos, Linda Linder, Brian Chuchua and Rodolfo “Rudy” Ganoa. Chuchua was one of two Republican candidates endorsed by the OC GOP in 2010. They also endorsed Kris Murray, who won – and they backed Tom Tait, who won the Mayor’s race.

My favorite candidate this year is Duane Roberts, a community activist who has an expertise in civil rights, and has a degree in criminal justice. While he is not likely to win, I know he will do great in the candidates’ debates. Roberts will bring up the issues the other candidates are unwilling to talk about. Continue reading→

Anaheim Mayor Tait’s committment to kindness and freedom is the real deal

Everyone figured that Tom Tait was just going to be Curt Pringle’s puppet when the former replaced the latter as Anaheim’s mayor in 2002, according to the OC Weekly. “But in this past years, Tait has done the impossible: not just yanked the collar from Pringle’s leash, but turned into a great, nearly radical mayor, the type of which Anaheim hasn’t seen in decades.”

Tait has also left a good impression on Libertarian columnist Steven Greenhut, who mentioned in a new post that “After Tom Tait was sworn in as the mayor of Anaheim in November 2010, he issued a statement announcing the city’s commitment to “kindness and freedom.” Continue reading→

Anaheim City Council Special Meeting

Mayor Tom Tait has invited Anaheim residents to attend a special city council meeting on Wednesday, August 8 at 4:00 pm in response to events that have occurred over the past several weeks. The meeting, located in Anaheim High School’s Cook Auditorium, will allow residents the opportunity to offer their input on all issues affecting our community.

In an effort to facilitate continued community dialogue and discussion, Mayor Tait and the City Council want to welcome Anaheim residents to participate by offering their thoughts, ideas and recommendations to City leaders on how to improve relations among residents, neighborhoods and the government. Who the heck is Steve Chavez Lodge? Quite frankly, nobody in the Anaheim community had heard of him prior to his announcment to run for Anaheim City Council.

But what I do know is that he is involved with The Giveaway 3 aka Kris Murray, Gail Eastman, and Harry Sidhu, the GardenWalk Hotel developer Bill O’Connell, and Lake Development developer Larry Lake. In addition Mayor Tom Tait dropped his endorsement of Lodge. Continue reading→

Deceased former Republican Party of Orange County Chairman Tom Fuentes “scripted his funeral ritual last August with one of his former seminary classmates and refined it in the intervening months,” according to his longtime friend, O.C. Register columnist Frank Mickadeit.

Eastman, Murray and Sidhu backstab the hotels that backed them

Anaheim Council Members Gail Eastman and Kris Murray are members of the Advisory Committee of the SOAR (Support our Anaheim Resort) PAC (Political Action Committee. Both were endorsed by SOAR when they won seats on the Anaheim City Council in 2010. Yet they both voted last month to give “up to $158 million in tax incentives to build luxury hotels in the Disneyland area, despite opposition by city staff members,” according to the O.C. Register.

“The city will not provide any money up front for the $283-million hotel project, which is to include 866 four-star rooms. Instead, the hotels would get money later from hotel bed taxes. In Anaheim, guests pay 15 percent of their room rentals for the bed tax, which normally goes to the city,” according to another article in the O.C. Register. Continue reading→
