Spitzer Statement on $500,000 Settlements with Each Bustamante Victim

(Orange County, CA) — Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer made this statement today after the Board of Supervisors approved settlements with the victims of former OC Public Works Manager Carlos Bustamante:

Today the Orange County Board of Supervisors acted to bring a legal close to the civil proceedings involving the criminal acts of a now disgraced former County manager, Carlos Bustamante. While our actions cannot erase the damage caused to his innocent victims, we hope the monetary settlement will ease the pain of the damage he caused. Exactly 240 years ago this weekend, brave men from thirteen British colonies at the Second Continental Congress gave birth to the United States of America. They approved a resolution of independence on July 2, 1776, and adopted the world’s most famous Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

Voters Approve Ballot Measure Fiscal Impact Statements in Landslide

On Tuesday, voters approved Measure B, requiring fiscal impact statements for ballot measures, in a landslide of 86.1%-13.9%. This means going forward, all measures voted on at the countywide level must have a fiscal impact statement (this measure does not apply to city, school district, or special district measures).

“I thank Supervisor Andrew Do for bringing this important fiscal transparency measure to protect the voters’ right to know the costs of what they are working on,” Supervisor Todd Spitzer said. “I congratulate Supervisor Do, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association President Jon Coupal, and Auditor-Controller Eric Woolery on their efforts to advance Measure B.” Continue reading→

District Attorney Retaliates Against Todd Spitzer for Fighting for Ethics Reform

Statement from Supervisor Todd Spitzer 

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas jeopardized any remaining shred of credibility his office may still have by hastily summoning the press corps to falsely accuse me of impersonating a position I once held in the District Attorney’s Office during a robo call in support of Measure A, an initiative placed on the ballot by the Board of Supervisors, that creates a long overdue campaign finance and ethics commission.

Only the District Attorney is confused because his motive is utterly political and personal. I clearly started the Measure A call with, “Hello, this is COUNTY SUPERVISOR Todd Spitzer,” unequivocally stating my current position as a County Supervisor.
