Orange County – February 1 – Today, Chairman of the Board of Orange County Supervisors, Andrew Do, announced his endorsement of Shawn Nelson, candidate for Congress in California’s 39th District. The OC Board of Supervisors win a landmark settlement with the FAA

(Orange County, CA) – The settlement of legal objections by the County of Orange along with the City of Newport Beach (pending approval this evening) against the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to prevent flight pattern variations around John Wayne Airport is a significant victory for the residents of Orange County.

“I’ve fought hard to protect our residents from the unwanted consequences of the altered flight paths allowed by the FAA,” said Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Third District. “I led the effort to sue the FAA in order to protect our communities, which is my duty as an elected official.” Continue reading→

County Hires Director of Ethics Commission

Santa Ana, Calif. (March 14, 2025) — The County of Orange Board of Supervisors voted today to hire Denah Hoard as the County’s Executive Director of the Office for Campaign Finance and Ethics Commission.

In October 2015, the Board of Supervisors reviewed the recommendations of a special committee spearheaded by Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Third District, and Supervisor Shawn Nelson, Fourth District, evaluating the establishment of a local ethics commission, and directed County attorneys to prepare ballot language for an ordinance. The ordinance was approved by Orange County voters in June 2016 with more than 70 percent voting in favor. The County then conducted a public recruitment for the Executive Director, who will oversee the five-person commission. Continue reading→

Board Re-Appoints OCERS Members

This week, Supervisor Nelson made a unanimously supported motion for the re-appointments of Charles E. Packard and David L. Ball to the Orange County Employees Retirement System (OCERS) Board of Retirement.

OCERS is administered by the Board of Retirement, a group of ten trustees that is charged with ensuring the secure delivery of retirement and disability benefits to its members. Of the ten members, four are appointed by the Board of Supervisors; four (including the Safety alternate) are elected by OCERS’ active members. One is elected by the retired membership. The County Treasurer serves as an ex-officio member. Board members serve three-year terms, with the exception of the Treasurer, who serves during his or her tenure in office. Continue reading→
