A second Orange County Democrat has been caught sharing racist social media messages.
Westminster Councilman Sergio Contreras, who demanded the resignation of OC Democratic Vice Chair Jeff LeTourneau for his offensive social media posts, has been caught “liking” the “n” word on Twitter.
On March 15, 2020, Contreras – under his @SergioContreras Twitter account – liked a Tweet that used the “n” word.
Last month, Sergio Contreras demanded the resignation of Jeff LeTourneau, then-Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County, after he posted offensive social media posts that inflicted traumas on immigrant communities in Orange County. After Contreras’ criticism, LeTourneau was forced to resign his leadership position.
Contreras attacked LeTourneau for his racist actions stating, “I continue to stand with my community, and join the elected officials and members of the Democratic party calling for Mr. Letourneau to resign and immediately apologize for his comments.”
Sergio Contreras Record of Supporting Racist Politicians
Sergio Contreras has a track record of standing in solidarity with racist behavior – even crossing party lines to back known racists. In 2012, Sergio Contreras appointed Republican Margie Rice, who he “considers part of our family” to the Westminster City Council. Rice has repeatedly attack immigrant communities.
- Anti-Latinx Racist Statements: “I don’t like the illegals here either. I would like to see ’em ALL run out of the country. NOT just the Hispanic … but ALL illegals!!!” “This is America, not Vietnam. You’ve got to draw the line somewhere.”
- Anti-Vietnamese Racist Statements: “This is America, not Vietnam. You’ve got to draw the line somewhere.”
Sergio Contreras Ran Joint Campaign with GOP Racist Who Backs Trump Deportation Policy:
In 2018, Sergio Contreras contributed money to and – ran a joint political campaign with – Midway City Sanitary District Director Republican Margie Rice AFTER she publicly supported Arizona’s SB 1070, Donald Trump’s deportation policies and anti-immigrant harassment campaign.
In contrast to Sergio Contreras, here’s how Orange County Democratic Party Vice-Chair for North County Jeff LeTourneau described racist Margie Rice: “I see an old, white, privileged, tired woman hanging on (to her position) by her fingertips. Shame on you… Ours is the party that believes no human is illegal.”
The exposure of Contreras liking the “n” word is likely to put him at odds with OC Democrats, who under the leadership of Chair Ada Briceño, have demanded Democrat candidates abide by progressive values and stand up to racist behavior.
