Can FV City Council candidate Tom Nguyen knock out the vile Michael Vo?

The Fountain Valley City Council race features two Vietnamese Americans – but they could not be more different from each other.

Incumbent Councilman Michael Vo has a sordid history of selling his vote for campaign contributions. When he did not allow the waste disposal contract in Fountain Valley to go to bid he was rewarded with a campaign contribution from the city’s longtime trash vendor – Rainbow Disposal. The people of Fountain Valley have paid for that deal with trash rates that are among the highest in Orange County!

Vo also recently got caught taking a campaign contribution from Clear Channel, an advertising company that is trying to install a dangerous digital billboard near the Fountain Valley Water Tank. Why is it dangerous? Because it will have freeway visibility for those driving on the 405 Freeway. Studies show that these signs can distract drivers and cause fatal car accidents. Two years ago, the Fountain Valley City Council approved a large commercial and housing development at Brookhurst St. and the 405 freeway interchange that included a new Ayres Hotel. Ayres is well-known in southern California for the success they’ve had, and their new structures always seem welcome wherever they’re built as they’re great hotel tax generators. In FV’s situation, the development also revitalized an area that had been occupied by a ten year-vacant office building and its unused parking lots. Continue reading→

Did Michael Vo pre-sell his vote on a digital billboard to Clear Channel?

We already busted Fountain Valley Mayor Michael Vo for refusing to allow competitive bidding for Fountain Valley’s waste hauling. He took a campaign contribution from Rainbow Waste – which got what they paid for as the trash contract in Fountain Valley continues to be evergreen – and the result is one of the highest monthly trash pick-up rates in Orange County, as we posted here.

Now we have discovered that Vo is at it again. This time he accepted a campaign contribution from Clear Channel, an advertising company that wants to place a new digital billboard by the Fountain Valley Water Tank, located at Euclid – with visibility from the 405 Freeway. Continue reading→

Fountain Valley Councilman Vo caught pretending he is OC GOP endorsed

Michael Vo mailer in Fountain Valley today

While implied in this mailer, FV Mayor Michael Vo was not endorsed by the Orange County Republican Party per ocpolitical.com.

Incumbent Vo had been criticized by Scott Peotter on the Endorsements Committee for supporting evergreen contracts in his city. The Fountain Valley Council recently awarded without competitive bidding to Rainbow Environmental Service for trash collection and recycling. FV Council Candidates Forum: Thursday, 9/25, NOW 6pm

An endorsement by Janet Nguyen isn’t exactly something to brag about

Right, we’ve excited about Janet Nguyen too — will the FBI find what they’re looking for re. her fundraising activities? Will CalOptma find their footing again after Janet single-handedly demolished it and caused many of their senior managers to leave? Will she ever respond to her opponent’s, and the Register’s, assertions that she’s taking care of friends and family with no-show patronage jobs and tax money? It’s also more than discouraging that the (failing) OC Register chose to recommend her in SD34 despite everything they and their media partner, the union-funded Voice of OC have written about her indiscretions and lawlessness.

Tom Q. Nguyen is campaigning hard for City Council in Fountain Valley. Three seats are up, two incumbents want to be re-elected and seven newbies are running for the first or second time. Tom is dropping plenty of signs around this small city and has actively taken his campaign into social media, and especially Facebook as above where he’s discussing local issues like the lack of air conditioning in FV schools as recently reported in the OC Register: Orange County schools reach a boiling point, even tho the Council has no say over the school district budget. Tom Q.’s website even used some of our posts on the trash contract give-away just months ago where it was found that 4/5ths of the Council had taken at least one campaign contribution from Rainbow Environmental, pretty much to ensure their nearly $3 million contract was again renewed without competitive bidding.
