Did you know that longtime Republican Congressman Ed Royce, who supported the Fullerton Council Members who were recently recalled (back when they ran for election, prior to the recall) is facing a serious challenger?
Decline to State voters in California may soon surpass the dwindling Republican Party. If you are a Decline to State or Independent voter, and you’re wondering who to vote for in the June 5 Open Primary Election, then look no further. As is my custom, I like to present my personal election picks – with my comments of course. We’ll start with the U.S. Congress:
U.S. Senate – I have never been a fan of Senator Dianne Feinsten, but the GOP has never been able to displace her. I suspect they will fail again this year, but I am going to endorse Elizabeth Emken and hope for the best. I like her focus on cutting government waste. And she is a parent of a child with autism – a subject she speaks about with authority. She is also a UCLA grad which I can appreciate as my oldest son is a freshman at UCLA this year. UPDATED: Former OC GOP Chairman Tom Fuentes has passed away, according to the OC Political Blog.
I worked with OC GOP Chairman Emeritus Tom Fuentes back in his heyday, when I was the inaugural OC GOP Hispanic Outreach Director. He was something back then. No one could run a meeting quite like Fuentes, who was famous for his “one clap.” He had asked me to help the Republican Party to reach out to Latinos – but by the time I quit the OC GOP Central Committee, in 2007, the Republican Party of Orange County had gone from reaching out to Latinos to bashing them. It was a sad turn of events.
Fuentes is now deathly ill with cancer, but he is still working on behalf of his beloved Republican Party. He summoned GOP Assembly candidates Allan Mansoor and Keith Carlson (Huntington Beach) to his bedside this week, at his home in Lake Forest, according to O.C. Register columnist Frank Mickadeit, and sure enough Fuentes did it again – convincing Carlson to pull out of the race for the 74th Assembly District. That paves the way for Mansoor to go head to head with moderate Republican Leslie Daigle, a popular Newport Beach Councilwoman. Continue reading
Did Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach endorse Los Alamitos Council Member Troy Edgar for the 72nd Assembly District? That is apparently the case. Edgar announced that endorsement at the 72nd A.D. candidates’ debate last night.

The Fullerton Recall team made news this week when they turned in well over 50,000 signatures from Fullerton voters to initiate a recall election of Fullerton Council Members Don Bankhead, Dick Jones and Pat McKinley, according to the FFFF Blog.
Did you know that Bankhead, Jones and McKinley all have something in common? They were all endorsed by Congressman Ed Royce. (Supervisor Shawn Nelson endorsed Bankhead and Jones as well – which you have to believe he regrets now! Shame on whatever squish convinced him to make those awful endorsements). Continue reading
