With Elon Musk’s announcement of a far more technically sophisticated and purportedly faster and cheaper alternative to California’s High-Speed Rail “Browndoggle”, the city of Anaheim has a blockbuster opportunity to look at how this 21st century technology could positively impact its resort and convention business. Voice of OC Editor’s Note: This is a republication of an email that Jon Fleischman recently sent to the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Board of Directors “in opposition to a project to put in a roughly three-mile trolley system in place between the Anaheim Train Station and Disneyland at a cost to taxpayers well north of 400 million bucks.”
Fleischman, who also serves on the Voice of OC Community Editorial Board, comes out swinging, posting on the Flash Report that the trolley project takes too much out of communal tax coffers for a narrow interest, “Much of it from money that could be used to widen the 405 or 91 freeways. You can’t make this stuff up,” writes Fleischman, reminding OC residents that “The OCTA is scheduled to vote on this boondoggle this morning — Flash.”
Here’s the verbatim text of his public call to OCTA board members. Continue reading
I got a call the other day, out of the blue, from a former elected official I had not heard from in quite awhile. She was upset about a post that fingered public affairs consultant Roger Faubel. But we eventually got to talking about Curt Pringle and she was amazed to find out that a lot of conservatives don’t like him. Why wouldn’t they like him, she wondered. Why indeed.

She countered that when these people advocate for toll roads, for example, they are just trying to make sure that all of the voters don’t get stuck paying for the new roads we need in order to service Orange County’s new developments. “Anaheim city officials are weighing whether to release a politically explosive email that raises troubling questions about whether local officials knowingly misrepresented facts to the federal government in order to obtain transportation grant funding,” according to the Voice of OC.
The Voice of OC also reported that “City Hall sources who have seen the email, including Mayor Tom Tait, say that on its face the correspondence shows that Natalie Meeks, the city’s public works director, and Darrell Johnson, deputy CEO of the Orange County Transportation Authority, may have colluded to misrepresent information on an application for Federal Transit Authority funds for the $319-million streetcar project that would connect Disneyland to the city’s planned public transit depot.” Continue reading
