FORMER IRVINE MAYOR BETH KROM ENDORSES LORETTA SANCHEZ FOR ORANGE COUNTY SUPERVISOR; ANNOUNCES RUN FOR CHAIR OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF ORANGE COUNTY
Irvine, CA – Former Irvine Mayor Beth Krom announced today that she is withdrawing from the race for Orange County’s 3rd Supervisorial District and endorsing former Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. Sanchez is running to succeed District Attorney-elect Todd Spitzer in a special election that is likely to occur in the Spring of 2019. Krom also announced she is running for Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC). Current Chair Fran Sdao will be stepping down at the end of her regular term in January.
In announcing her support for Sanchez and run for Chair of DPOC, Krom released the following statement:
“Former Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and I both share a strong vision to better address critical issues like homelessness, safe neighborhoods, and improving the services that our most vulnerable residents rely on. Loretta’s experience – representing Orange County in Congress for two decades – has prepared her to tackle the issues we face, and I trust her to serve all Orange County communities.
At the same time, the Democratic Party of Orange County is at a crucial juncture. With Chair Fran Sdao’s decision to step down, we must build upon our momentum in the most recent election with strong leadership that can represent the entire county. As an experienced elected official, public advocate and community builder, I embrace the opportunity to bring people together and build our bench with effective fundraising and organizing. We must immediately prepare for the 2020 Presidential election cycle that is just two short years away.”
Krom’s decision to run for Chair is inspired by her passion for Democratic politics and her vision to usher the Democratic Party into its new role as Orange County’s leading political force. Krom understands that building upon the success of the historic 2018 Midterm elections will require strong fundraising, effective organizing, and broad coalition-building informed by a detailed understanding of Orange County’s complex issues.
Krom is a widely recognized Democratic leader in Orange County. She served for 16 years on the Irvine City Council including four years as directly-elected Mayor. Krom has been recognized by numerous leading organizations including the Democratic Party of Orange County, Orange County Labor Federation, the Sierra Club, and many others.
