RSCCD Trustee John Hanna, who is also the Government Affairs Director/Special Counsel at Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters
John Hanna, a longtime member of the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s Board of Trustees, hammered through Union-Only Project Labor Agreements when the district passed two bond measures. Then he got hired, as a reward, as the Government Affairs Director/Special Counsel at the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters.
Now that union, the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, which received a $1.2 million dollar contract contract from the RSCCD for for ’16-17, has contributed $95,000 to elect Hanna’s awful slate of three horrible RSCCD Trustees (Arianna Barrios, Nelida Yanez and Claudia Alvarez) and their amigo Zeke Hernandez (a lifelong political hack) in the upcoming November General Election.
Talk about a major conflict of interest! Isn’t it time for the FPPC and the Feds to look into this outrageous pay to play scheme by Hanna, the RSCCD Trustees and organized labor?
Needless to say the PLAs in question drove up construction overruns at the RSCCD resulting in less construction than might have otherwise been accomplished with non-union labor.
And Hanna and his merry corrupt cabal blew hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on ridiculous travel expenditures, including five star hotels, gourmet meals and limos!
Hanna and company also supported a truly ridiculous consultation contract in Saudi Arabia, a country that regularly mistreats women and minorities. In fact the RSCCD may end up losing a fortune on that misbegotten deal!
We suggest voting for the challengers for the RSCCD Board:
Area 1 – Santa Ana City Commissioner Matthew Schauer has our endorsement. Please do not vote for career political hack Zeke Hernandez!
Area 3 – Please do not vote for the incumbent, Nelida Mendoza Yanez. She is part of the RSCCD Board majority that has blown millions of dollars on construction cost overruns and wasteful travel spending. She also supported the ridiculous RSCCD partnership with a Saudia Arabian company – a country that persecutes and mistreats women and minorities. There are two challengers for this seat – Thomas Gordon and Tony Tapia. Take your pick. Either one would be preferable to Mendoza Yanez.
Area 5 – Please do not vote for the incumbent, Claudia Alvarez. Like Mendoza Yanez she took part in blowing millions of dollars in construction cost overruns and she supports the district’s money-wasting venture in Saudi Arabia. Alvarez has two challengers. Steven Nguyen is a member of the OC GOP Central Committee and has been endorsed by the OC GOP. Cecilia Aguinaga has a long history of advocating for students in the area and is a former employee of the SAUSD. Vote for either one and you will be doing us all a big favor.
Area 7 – The Hanna cabal is promoting incumbent RSCCD Trustee Arianna Barrios, a lobbyist who supported the ridiculous consulting contract in Saudi Arabia. We urge you to vote instead for Rudy Diaz, a retired engineer who stands against the wasting of taxpayer money!
