Assemblyman Travis Allen Calls on Pentagon and California National Guard to Reverse Collections from Soldiers
SACRAMENTO – This week, Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach) released the following statement regarding the thousands of California soldiers who have been ordered to repay contractually promised money due to fiscal mismanagement by the Pentagon and California National Guard.
“This is an unconscionable way to treat our fighting men and women, who volunteered to place their lives in danger to preserve our freedom and way of life” said Assemblyman Travis Allen. “Taking money back that was contractually promised to our troops is outrageous. The Pentagon and California National Guard must find a just resolution to these egregious collections.”
“These patriots should not be punished for the mistakes of bureaucrats. I call on the Governor and California Republicans and Democrats to work with the Pentagon and California National Guard to reverse this deplorable error against our state’s military heroes.”
Sunday, reports were released that nearly 10,000 soldiers, many of whom risked their lives during multiple combat tours, have been ordered to repay the cash bonuses after audits revealed widespread overpayments by California Guard officials under pressure to meet enlistment targets at the height of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan 10 years ago.
