YLWD Holds Special Meeting on Water Rate Referendum
The Yorba Linda Water District (YLWD) is holding a special meeting on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. to address the water rate referendum signed by over 5500 Water District customers and circulated by the Yorba Linda Taxpayers Association and concerned citizens. We urge members of the community and the media to attend this historic event.
On October 22, the Orange County Registrar of Voters certified the referendum petition. Under State law, the Water District Board must address the referendum at its next regularly scheduled meeting, which would have been November 12. However, the District has stated that due to the “expeditious certification” of the referendum petition, they have scheduled a special meeting on November 5. At that time, the Board can choose to rescind the increase or place the question to the voters of the District in an election. Should an election occur, the rate increase must be suspended retroactive to the certification date and remain suspended until decided upon by the voters.
“We respectfully request the Board does the right thing by rescinding the water rates, thus saving customers the cost of an election or any litigation,” says Jeff Decker Chairman of YLTA. “They (the Board) need to go back to the drawing board and start with a thorough community outreach and look at ways to cut overhead and expenses.”
For meeting and agenda information, visit the YLWD web site at this link: www.ylwd.com/about-the-water- district/board-of-directors/meetings-calendar. The agenda and staff report should be posted 72 hours in advance of the meeting.

About the Yorba Linda Water District
Yorba Linda Water District serves residents in most of Yorba Linda and portions of Placentia, Brea, Anaheim and in areas of unincorporated Orange County.
The YLWD service area was originally located within an unincorporated county area, but now includes most of the City of Yorba Linda, and parts of the Cities of Placentia, Anaheim, Brea, and portions of unincorporated Orange County. The service area can be thought of as having two major parts: the western portion being an older established area whose eastern boundary was formerly the District’s eastern limit; and the eastern portion consisting of the developed area.
These two portions are intersected by a 400-acre strip of residential development known as the Locke Ranch. The Locke Ranch area receives its water service from the GSWC-Placentia Division, and its sewer service from YLWD.
YLWD provides water service to all residents and businesses within its service area. The service area is bounded by the service areas of the Golden State Water Company, City of Anaheim Water Department, and City of Brea Water Department. YLWD has emergency interconnections with each of these surrounding agencies.
