Huff Concludes Successful Year in State Senate
Five Measures Signed and Six Resolutions Approved
SACRAMENTO: Senator Bob Huff (R-San Dimas) reports that the Governor signed five of his bills into law and the Legislature approved six resolutions that he authored during the now-concluded legislative year. No measures authored by Senator Huff were vetoed by the Governor.
“I’ve been able to work with my colleagues across the aisle to craft consensus legislation that will help children and families,” said Senator Huff. “I’m proud of these accomplishments and look forward to new challenges when the Legislature reconvenes in January.”
Measures authored by Senator Huff that were signed into law include:
- SB 738: EpiPen & Physician Liability: SB 1266, signed into law in 2014, requires schools to store a supply of epinephrine. Some physicians have been unwilling to write the standing order for this prescription to schools without liability protections. This has caused schools and school nurses trouble in complying with the law. SB 738 provides limited liability for physicians writing these prescriptions.
- SB 478: Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act: This allows specified mandated reporters to make initial reports of non-emergency child abuse or neglect to the Child Protection Agency through an online report. This is a voluntary pilot program and will increase vital reporting efficiencies, so that mandated reporters are no longer required to wait hours on the telephone to report cases of serious child abuse and neglect.
- SB 597: Interdistrict Transfers: This measure extends the 22-year old School District of Choice program, which fosters public school choice by allowing parents to transfer their children to participating school districts without a transfer agreement.
- SB 416: Repeal of Funding Programs: This bill removes sections of law in the Education code that were rendered obsolete following the enactment of the Local Control Funding Formula. It is critical that these antiquated laws are removed from the California Education Code, making the code easier for schools to understand.
- SB 354: Public Employees’ Retirement System: Aligns and clarifies recent pension reforms with Joint Powers Authority laws for the cities of Brea and Fullerton.
Senate Resolutions authored by Senator Huff passed by the Legislature include:
- Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 1: Legislative Counsel of California: This measure designates Diane F. Boyer-Vine as the Legislative Counsel of California.
- SCR 10: Lunar New Year Celebration: This measure recognizes the Year of the Ram Lunar New Year, celebrated by the 2.5 million Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese residents of California.
- SCR 27: Memorial Highway Designation for Officer Jerry Hatch: Fullerton Police Department Memorial Highway signs for Officer Jerry Hatch, who was killed in the line of duty.
- SCR 28: Memorial Highway Designation for Officer Tommy De La Rosa: Fullerton Police Department Memorial Highway signs for Officer Tommy De La Rosa, who was killed in the line of duty.
- SCR 42: Voter Awareness Week: Recognizes October 18 through 24th as Voter Awareness Week.
- SCR 52: Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month: Recognizes May 2015 as Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
