The Fountain Valley City Council is considering plans for a 65′ high Clear Channel electronic message board of 672 sq. ft. (each face) with 850,000 lights and 48″ pole diameter. This digital blight would be placed near the Fountain Valley water tank at Euclid/Ellis at the 405 freeway.
This towering sign will be seen far and wide….into Costa Mesa. It will broadcast commercial, static ads for 8 seconds each. In the event of an Amber Alert or other emergency, that would be broadcast instead. There’s already a sign on this freeway for these types of emergency alerts. Similar existing signage in Costa Mesa at 23′ and 31′ in size. Yet this one will be a towering 65′ tall sign….34 – 42 feet higher!

This proposed electronic message board with a 30-year lease with Clear Channel is a very serious issue for both Fountain Valley and Costa Mesa and will adversely affect property values and will be yet another driver distraction. The latest revision includes plans for it to be moved 200 feet to the west of the original proposed location.
The Fountain Valley Planning Commission unanimously rejected the project, along with a very large number of Costa Mesa residents speaking against it. The now project continues on to City Council, though. There are some campaign donations involved, just as has been the case with the evergreen contracts the Fountain Valley has been doling out to their trash supplier for years – forcing residents and businesses to overpay for their trash collection.

If you don’t do something to voice your opinion and we get the sign anyway, then, don’t complain you can watch this sign for 30 years.
