Apparently U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez is trying to save her struggling campaign for the U.S. Senate by touting the results of a new Field Poll that shows “a wide open US Senate race with 58% of the voters undecided,” according to a press release distributed via email by her campaign today.
The Field Poll however indicates that California Attorney General Kamala Harris is leading the pack of candidates vying to replace Barbara Boxer, with 19% of first choice preferences. Sanchez received 8% of likely voter preferences, while Republican Assemblyman Rocky Chavez and former state Republican Party chair Tom Del Beccaro trailed at 6% and 5%. Democratic Congressman Xavier Becerra came in at 3% and former state Republican Party chair Duf Sundheim was at 1%.
Partisan loyalties are a big factor in the initial preferences of likely voters in the open primary. For
example, Harris is the first or second choice of four in ten likely Democratic voters in the primary
(40%), but only receives 7% of the first or second choice votes of likely Republicans. Similarly,
fellow Democrat, Sanchez obtains 25% first or second choice votes, but only 4% support from
Republicans. Chavez and Del Beccaro receive the largest proportions of first or second choice
preference votes among likely Republican voters (17% and 14%, respectively), but receive only 1%
support from Democrats, according to the Field Poll.
There are also differences in preferences relating to the race or ethnicity of the voter. Harris is the
first or second choice of 51% of African Americans, and also leads her nearest potential challengers
among white non-Hispanics nearly two to one. Sanchez holds the lead among Latinos, while the
preferences of Asian American voters are about evenly divided between the two.
Support for Harris is also somewhat greater among voters living in union-affiliated households than
those in non-union households, according to the Field Poll.
In related news, the Congressional Quarterly has named Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez as one of “The 25 Most Influential Women In Congress.” In naming her to their top 25 list, Congressional Quarterly cited Congresswoman Sanchez’s work as the second highest ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee and on issues like immigration.
I will not vote for her – – but she certainly is better than the war hoop Sanchez!
Kamala Harris is letting criminals out of jail. Kamala made a deal with Bankers that cause the crisis in 2008. People have lost their homes and Kamala did not help them or prosecute criminal bankers. She is a sell out to white collar criminals. She is Al Sharpton appointee, he and race hustlers will be welcoming her to D.C. in 2016.
Nine of that matters. What matters is Harris comes off as a serious candidate and Sanchez is a goof.
How on earth can this post claim that she is “far ahead” with 60% undecided and her nearest competitors only 10 points behind? The fact that the state AG is only 10 points ahead of a moderately known Congresswoman and a virtually unknown Assemblyman, doesn’t speak very well of her chances as this inevitable Boxer replacement, as the media and the establishment of both parties want us to believe. We need to remember that this woman barely won her post as AG only after several recounts against Republican L.A. County D.A. Steve Cooley. She can be beat, but only if the CA GOP doesn’t blow it by pushing another loser RINO!
Sadly that is exactly what the GOP is doing.
