Californians Support Trade Promotion Authority
Statewide Survey Reveals 62% of Democratic Voters Say TPA Renewal will Create U.S. Jobs and Support the Economy
SACRAMENTO, CA — Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition-California, a state chapter of the national civic advocacy organization dedicated to raising awareness about pro-growth policies, today, released results to a statewide voter survey indicating strong bi-partisan support for the renewal of Trade Promotion Authority.
The research revealed that Californians believe that renewing Trade Promotion Authority would help create U.S. jobs and support the U.S economy. Voters also say they support Congress approving the renewal of Trade Promotion Authority.
The Coalition’s release comes on the heels of Congressional leaders unveiling of a bipartisan bill to renew Trade Promotion Authority yesterday afternoon.
The survey found that a clear majority of 55% say renewing Trade Promotion Authority would help create U.S. jobs and support the U.S. economy; with that support jumping to 62% amongst Democratic voters. Fewer than 22% of respondents said that renewing trade would not create jobs and support the economy (23.2% were unsure or didn’t answer the question).
Of the poll participants that had an opinion when asked about their level of support for Congress renewing TPA – 70% that answered the question were in support of Congress approving the renewal of Trade Promotion Authority.
Overall, 53% of respondents support Congress approving the renewal of Trade Promotion Authority; while only 22% oppose Congress doing so (25% were unsure or didn’t answer the question). In addition, the survey found that the intensity of preference in favor of Trade Promotion Authority renewal is high, with nearly one-quarter (22.9%) strongly supporting renewal.
