MEDIA ADVISORY: Supervisor Todd Spitzer and Orange County Veterans Stand for the Flag
Chairman Vows to Ban all County Contracts with Organizations that Ban the Flag
WHO: (Orange County, CA) — Board of Supervisors Chairman Todd Spitzer, Orange County Veterans Advisory Council Chairman Bobby McDonald and Orange County Veterans
WHAT: Board of Supervisors Chairman Todd Spitzer, Orange County Veterans Advisory Council Chairman Bobby McDonald and Orange County Veterans will gather at the flag poles located on UC Irvine’s campus to “stand” together in support of the American Flag. Decorated Orange County Veterans will tell their story to share the historical significance and contributions that the military and veterans have had in Orange County.
The Associated Students’ Legislative Council at UC Irvine approved a ban on the flag with a vote of 6-4 on Thursday, March 5 but the Associated Students’ Executive Cabinet vetoed the ban on a 4-1 vote. The resolution also banned all other nations’ flags from the common lobby area of student council offices. While the recent ban issue at UC Irvine is resolved, the issue on how to protect the display of the American flag at government buildings and public schools remains.
