AD73: Aaron Park Misleads About Anna Bryson’s Vote on School Board President
By Ze’ev Wurman, Policy Adviser, Anna Bryson for State Assembly 2014
This is the 19th in a series of blog posts “Setting the Record Straight on Anna Bryson”
Blogger Aaron Park from the Bill Brough camp attacks Anna (5/5/14) for voting in early 2011 on the Capistrano Unified School Board for Gary Pritchard for the nonpartisan post of Board President instead of voting for Brough-endorser Ellen Addonizio. According to Park, Addonizio has been “a stalwart for Republican values.” Park writes (4/22/14): “Ellen Addonizio is a CRA Board officer and is a stand-up woman.”
But in fact, Addonizio during the 2006 election campaign had sought and received endorsement and support from the teachers’ union.
After Addonizio was elected in 2006, she met privately with the head of the local teachers’ union on a regular basis. So Addonizio is not the upholder of Republican values that Park claimed she is. According to Park, “everyone involved [in Republican circles] wanted Ellen to be Chairman [sic] of the CUSD board.”
But of the 5 Republicans on the 7-member CUSD board, 3 (including Anna) voted for Pritchard and 2 voted for Addonizio. Two (Anna and Jack Brick) of those 3 Republicans who voted against Addonizio had been elected to the Board on Reform slates, just as Addonizio herself had been.
PS: It’s pathetic that Brough-blogger Aaron Park who claims to be writing accurately about the details of school board proceedings doesn’t even know that school boards have Presidents, not Chairmen. The reader is also momentarily quite startled to discover that Park – in the midst of attacks on Anna — from time to time says that school districts are run by a “Supervisor,” rather than giving the correct title of “Superintendent.” (A lapse of mind on Park’s part?)
(Almost as pathetic was Jesse Petrilla’s mailer attacking Anna, in which Jessica mixed up the “College Board,” which sponsors college admissions tests, with the Capistrano Unified School Board.)
