About Jim Righeimer
Jim Righeimer was elected to the Costa Mesa City Council in 2010, where he currently serves as Mayor. Running on a platform dedicated to streamlining city government, reducing pension liabilities and providing improved services, Jim was the highest vote getter among the five council candidates.
In Costa Mesa, Jim has led the charge to shrink government and provide more transparency and efficiency to the Citizens of the City. Labor Bosses say Costa Mesa is Wisconsin in California. Costa Mesa has been called a “battle ground,” for reform, and numerous national news publications such as: THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE WASHINGTON POST, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, and THE NEW YORKER, have printed front page stories about the debate. Further, Jim has been interviewed by multiple national television news programs to discuss Costa Mesa, such as: Varney & Co (Fox Business Channel), Squawk on the Street with Rick Santelli (CNBC), Fox & Friends (Fox News), and America’s Newsroom (Fox News).
In 2007 Jim was appointed to the Costa Mesa Planning Commission, later elected by his peers as Chairman in 2009, and served in that capacity until being elected to City Council in 2010. Jim is also a Board Member for Mercy House, a non-profit group that provides emergency services, transitional housing and permanent housing with supportive services to homeless men, women, and children living in Orange County. Jim also serves on the Orange County Supervisor’s Airport Land-Use Commission, and is a founding member of both the Orange County Education Alliance and the Family Action Committee.
Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Pepperdine University Graziadio School of Business and Management. His firm owns and operates office buildings and retail centers in Southern California.
Jim and his wife, Lene, live with their three daughters in the Mesa Verde neighborhood of Costa Mesa.
