AD73: Anna Bryson Opposed Union-Backed Contracts for Teachers in Capistrano Unified District – Contracts That Were Too Costly for Taxpayers & That Cut Back on Student  Learning

Anna was President of the school board during the April 2010 Teachers Union strike and was publicly outspoken in pressing for dramatic pay cuts in the Union contract. She gave close to 45 interviews in which she stood firm on imposing pay cuts. But Anna’s fighting for the children (and the taxpayers) didn’t stop with settlement of the 2010 union strike.

In August 2013, Anna voted with the Trustee board minority to oppose the 2013 Teachers Union contract because it was too costly and because it gave students less teaching than they need – less than a full school year. “A full 180-day school year is right, just, and means more time learning,” Anna told the news media after her 2013 dissenting vote on the union contract.

In board debate, Anna has argued for both small class size and teacher quality. “It’s not appropriate to have too many students in the class,” Anna said in board discussion on March 27, 2013. “At the same time, the heavy weight goes to having a good teacher in front of your class.”
