Fox & Hounds recently posted an interesting piece that offered a political analysis of the Six Californias ballot initiative broken out by political party preference and population.
Its organizer, Menlo Park venture capitalist Timothy Draper, said in July “that his proposed voter initiative to break California into six states has enough support to qualify for the 2016 ballot”. No official announcement yet’s been made that the claimed 1.3 million signatures that were received will cause the Initiative to make the election.
For Orange County, and San Bernardino/Riverside and the two border counties (collectively, “South California”), F&H reports the Red/Blue breakout as nearly even in party preference. Even the Libertarians have a place:
Let’s face it, the liberals and the public employee unions coupled with past and present Democrat Governors (plus the miserable Arnold Schwarzenegger) have led the greatest state in the union to ruin. We’re deeply in debt, overrun by illegals, destroying our middle class, and driving what’s left of our businesses out of state. Our infrastructure is disintegrating. And most critically, public education in California had failed our children.
South California would be a new start — new leadership, a new Constitution (not that the original one was that bad) — effectively, a “do over” where a lot of wrongs could be made right by what seems to be a balanced red/blue electorate. We’d have no more one-party rule that causes over-taxation and choking regulations.
By saying Yes to the Six Californias proposal, we’d have an opportunity to do the one, single most important thing that’s killing California now — get the unions out of government by legislatively forbidding (as was once the case) state employee membership in them (Irvine and its conservative majority have an opportunity to do that now to prove it will work). It’s worked WELL in Wisconsin.
Even the Bullet Train would be out of the picture as it’s never coming to Anaheim or San Diego.
The Six Californias notion isn’t silly — it’s more than practical and promising, especially as it apparently has enough support to make the ballot. Per this other table via F&H, South California would have the same electoral power in Washington as Ohio:
Let’s think about no more Brown, Feinstein or Boxer. Or Kamala Harris. Or Teachers Union. Or Prison Guards. Or SEIU. Or the rest of them.
Six Californias needs serious consideration in November. We’re smart enough to do this.
