For we political cynics that just love to see blood flowing in the streets, the finals for State Senate District 34 promise to be a barn burner. Clichéd analogies aside, this race IS pretty much about control of the State Senate — except that the status of THREE Democrat Senators who’ve been suspended and/or resigned and/or indicted and/or convicted makes voting in the upper house problematic for now. Once Democrat Superstars Leland Yee, Ron Calderon and Rod Wright are replaced (and perhaps by then finally OFF the state payroll), SD34 might just be the the tipping point that determines if the liberals maintain the 2/3rds majority that causes one-party rule in California.
In the SD34 mailbag today is the first of sure-to-be many mailers from 1st District OC Supervisor Janet Nguyen. In the scan above, her handlers are responding to the frequent airing of radio commercials (almost hourly on #12 KFI-AM 640 during the day — and that’s not cheap, so union money’s surely involved) by Jose Solorio‘s campaign that cite Janet’s corrupt capability for taking care of her family, her people and some of her supporters with tax money. Art Pedroza specifically covered their content here.
We can’t wait to see the postcard she’ll be mailing that lists all her accomplishments in six years on the Board of Supervisors.
We noticed two items about the mailer — 1) it’s directly from the CRP and 2) it doesn’t DENY Solorio’s claims with her own facts. Links supporting the assertions are in Art’s post above. Her counter that they’re “false” just makes her a liar. Then just to make things fair, the OC GOP took their own shot at Solorio this morning via Executive Director Dave Everett: O.C. Senate Candidate Jose Solorio Voted Illegally To Give Construction Contract To His Political Donors. Pot, meet Kettle.
Janet’s achieved plenty of press across the county highlighting her inadequacies, plain dishonesty and incompetence in doing what she was elected to — especially, her destruction of CalOptima will soon be Orange County legend. In fact, it could be an entire course at Chapman.
How unfortunate the Republicans couldn’t do any better than this, especially given what’s at stake.
