2006: Teachers Union Endorses Addonizio & Christensen, Not Bryson

(This is the 3rd in a series of blog posts “Setting the Record Straight on Anna Bryson”)

Blogger Aaron Park from the Bill Brough camp claimed (4/9/14) that a “highlight” of “Bryson’s original election” in 2006 was her (supposed) “playing” for Teachers Union support. (see also Park’s repetition of these claims in his 5/12/14 blog post.) In another post, Park asserted that during the 2006 campaign, Anna had supposedly been “caught..accepting support from Teachers Union aligned groups (and the union itself).”

This might be the most brazen lie from the Brough camp in the 2014 primary season.

In the 2006 election, Anna refused to seek financial support or endorsement from the Teachers Union or any public employees’ union. In that election, it was Larry Christensen and Brough-endorser Ellen Addonizio who sought and received union support. They did so under instructions from present-day Brough strategist Tony Beall and Brough campaign manager Jennifer Beall.

[After the 2006 election, Addonizio met privately with the leader of the Capistrano Unified Education Association (CUEA) on a regular basis.]

Anna has never sought or received financial support or endorsement from the Teachers Union or any public employees’ union. This whole episode has been well documented, with excerpts quoted from Addonizio’s application for union support and depictions of union voting-guides promoting Christensen and Addonizio in the 2006 race.

• At the instruction of Tony Beall and Jennifer Beall, ABC candidates Larry Christensen and Ellen Addonizio filled out an application for endorsement and interviewed with the CUEA Teachers Union in their headquarters in 2006.

• Anna Bryson rejected the Bealls’ instructions and refused to meet with the CUEA Teachers Union about an endorsement.

• Christensen and Addonizio received the endorsement of the CUEA Teachers Union in the Capistrano 2006 school-board election.

• Anna Bryson neither received or sought the CUEA Teachers Union endorsement in either of her election races.

• Christensen and Addonizio had independent expenditures (direct-mail pieces sent to voters, etc.) paid for by the Teachers Union in the 2006 election·

Anna Bryson has not received a single independent expenditure from the Teachers Union in any of her campaigns.

In the application by Ellen Addonizio (who endorsed Bill Brough for Assembly and is still politically allied with Tony and Jennifer Beall) for Teachers Union support:

• Addonizio spoke of the need for ‘close cooperation.’ In one passage in her application, she promised the Teachers Union to ‘work toward a more cooperative

relationship, and, in another passage, ‘immediately’ to work ‘to develop an open and cooperative relationship.’

• Addonizio promised the Teachers Union that she had a ‘willingness’ to work with them and that she looked forward ‘to working with them.’

• Addonizio promised that she opposed opportunity scholarships (vouchers) for students.

• Addonizio said ‘communication with the teachers association could bear improvement.’ She promised ‘open and regular communication’ with the Teachers Union and ‘regular meetings’ between district administrators and Teachers Union figures.

• Addonizio promised the Teachers Union that she understood and believed in bargaining ‘in good faith.’

• Addonizio eagerly solicited Teachers Union endorsement, writing: ‘I hope to receive the support of this union [CUEA Teachers Union] and would welcome your generous support. Together we can reform CUSD.’

Aaron Park claims (6/6/14) that he knows Anna Bryson from “hundreds of pages of documents.” Park asserts that his blog posts “are backed up with vetted information that is documented.” Okay, so where are his documents about the 2006 election to back up his claims?

It is clear that Brough-blogger Park’s tale about Anna’s actions during the 2006 campaign is an example of the Big Lie of deceitful propaganda.
