I am hearing that Chip Monaco, the Deputy Director at Orange County Waste, allegedly had a “drunken tantrum over a free suite at a Ducks game” according to one of my readers. This has apparently become the latest big mess at OC Waste and OC CEO Mike Giancola is reportedly trying to find Monaco a new home, with better pay of course.
Former Orange County Human Resources Manager Kathleen Tahilramani explained how Monaco, who used to work for Orange County Supervisor Pat Bates, got his job at OC Waste, despite a County hiring freeze, over at the Voice of OC:
Chip [Monaco] called Mike [Giancola], and they made a deal, along with Supervisor [Pat] Bates, that Chip would transition from an EA [executive assistant] position to an “admin two” position in OC Waste & Recycling. I was told to hold an old list open where he was on the A list, and they did a review of written records and plucked him from that list. That, again, was predetermined.Mike will take any EA. … He told me, he said, “I will take any EA that they want me to take, because that’s how you co-opt them.”
Tahiramani also said that Monaco “has difficulties with interpersonal relationships.”
OC Waste was a sponsor of this year’s “Spring Cleaning Eco Challenge” donation event which was held on Saturday, April 12 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Honda Center parking lot, according to the New Santa Ana blog. OC Waste references the Ducks many times over at their Twitter feed. It is certainly conceivable that the Ducks lined up the OC Waste bosses with a free suite.
