The race for the 74th Assembly District heated up as former GOP funder and activist Howard Ahmanson attacked RINO candidate Keith Curry with a mailer. But Ahmanson also ripped into Democratic candidate Anila Ali – actually quoting an article I wrote a few months ago, in another mailer that also touted former Republican Karina Onofre.
Onofre was of course thrilled by the push from Ahmanson. She thanked him on her Facebook page:

“Dear Howard Ahmanson, this is absolutely a Blessing from above. Thank you so much for sending this mailer out supporting me in my candidacy for State Assembly. I am trembling because of joy, and amazement, and gratefulness that God continues to bless me and has placed so many angels in my campaign. God bless you and your family. Thank you.”
Ahmanson’s attacks on Curry and Ali could help Emanuel Petrascu, the most Libertarian candidate for the 74th A.D., to make it to the November run-off election. I don’t see anything helping the other Republican in the race, Huntington Beach Councilman Matt Harper. He has not raised much money and he is hardly a conservative – not after he accepted a huge salary at the OC Waste Management Department, after departing the office of corrupt and odious Supervisor Janet Nguyen.

And Onofre has a decent shot at making the November General Election as well. I can’t see Ali garnering many votes. She has barely run a campaign and is damaged by her open affiliation with Irvine’s Agranistas.
Ahmanson quit the GOP in 2008, about a year after I did. He joined the Democrats apparently in a snit over how the Republican Party handles the tax issue, which is odd as he is a pro-life conservative. But then so is Onofre.
It is too bad Ahmanson didn’t launch these mailers sooner as many voters have already sent in their absentee ballots. Perhaps he did some polling that led him to believe he needed to up the ante. Boy did he! Hopefully Curry and Ali will both lose on June 3.
