Engineers Honor Huff as Legislator of the Year
Los Angeles Chapter of the ACEC Salute Huff for Promoting Business Growth
SACRAMENTO: The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) has presented Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) with the 2014 “Legislator of the Year” Award for both authoring and supporting legislation that will help create new jobs and business opportunities in California.
The Los Angeles Chapter cited Senator Huff for his deep understanding of infrastructure and education issues that are of importance to the engineering community and for the Senator’s efforts to create new jobs and business opportunities by increasing the number of private contracts that are awarded for state funded infrastructure projects.
“We believe in promoting an environment that results in the positive development of our local communities by influencing regulations and sources of project funding to enhance business opportunities,” said Kelly Asper, Executive Director of the ACEC Los Angeles County Chapter. “Senator Huff not only understands the importance of what we do, he is aware of the positive impact we make for Los Angeles County.”
This is the third time that Senator Huff has been honored by an ACEC organization. He was named Legislator of the Year by the statewide chapter of the ACEC in 2011. He also received an Engineering Achievement Award from the Los Angeles chapter in 1999 for his accomplishments as founding Chairman and Executive Board Member of the Alameda Corridor East Construction Authority (ACE).
“This award is indeed an honor, especially from an organization that is dedicated to protecting the public interest while creating economic growth for our state through private sector job creation,” said Senator Huff. “Good paying jobs are important to the health of every community in California.
Senator Huff’s efforts to create new jobs and opportunity through private sector investment resulted in a similar award earlier this year from the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). He was recognized for his leadership on issues that included goods movement legislation, several freight related bills and his understanding of the economic benefits these projects held for the Southern California region.
“My belief has always been that California can encourage economic growth through targeted investments in public-private partnerships that have worked time and time again,” said Senator Huff.
Senator Huff serves as the Senate Republican Leader and represents the 29th Senate District covering portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Follow Senator Huff on Twitter at @bobhuff99.
