Tuesday April 15, 2014 – So, you’ve done your best to get everything in by the deadline and got your e-file application to the IRS and FTB in California before the end of today, tax day, April 15th?
Well, congrats. But you’re not yet done. According to the Tax Foundation, the people of the United States, taken as a whole, have to work another 6 days to pay for all the federal, state, local, property, sales, and other taxes before any money they earn goes to pay for them and their families. In California, our tax freedom day isn’t until April 30th, the fourth highest on the list.
Worse still, tax freedom day is three days later this year than last year. And this is just an average figure. Many hard working people pay a higher portion of their salaries than these figures suggest. The more one earns, the more one pays; while those wealthy enough not to work at all can find ways to shelter income from taxes.
Remember this as you drive over the crumbling roads in California: wonder how much is sunk into High Speed Rail that you’ll never use, with exploding pensions and the proposition of municipal bankruptcies increasing, and with three State Senators in trouble with the law, the prospect of more and more taxes becomes ever more likely.
There is an alternative to a grim future of ever-higher taxes and an ever-shrinking economy. Freedom, with equal consideration for the rights of all. A thriving, ethical free market. Minimal taxes and regulations. No special privileges based on political power or wealth. A better world won’t just happen without serious effort by good people. Get involved. It’s time to take some of the hard earned ‘refund’ and make a contribution to the LPC. Come to our rally in Sacramento next week and support our candidates for office.
The rally will begin at noon Tuesday, April 22, at the State Capitol grounds behind the Capitol building on the L Street side. Speakers start at noon.
