The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is holding a public hearing tomorrow for AB 1102, a bill sponsored by Assembly Members Travis Allen and Sharon Quirk-Silva. This bill will prohibit the district from enacting a rule that prohibits a person from engaging in a beach burning for a recreational, ceremonial, or open burning conducted in a public coastal area marked by an accumulation of sand.
Assemblyman Allen sent the following notice out to his supporters regarding this apparent attempt by the SCAQMD to hold a secret meeting about this important bill:
Save our Beach Bonfires
Secret SCAQMD Meeting TOMORROW MORNING To Oppose Efforts to Keep our Beach Bonfires
Earlier today I discovered that there is a last minute hearing being called by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) regarding my legislation, AB 1102, to protect our beach bonfires. It is my assumption that they will oppose my bill, as they have continued down a path, against public opposition, to remove and over regulate the local, inexpensive pastime of having a beach bonfire in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Please call the SCAQMD [(909) 396-2000 ] to voice your support for AB 1102 before the hearing tomorrow morning.
I apologize for the last minute update, but the SCAQMD didn’t provide sufficient public notice before this hearing. Below is the information on the SCAQMD Legislative Committee hearing tomorrow.
