I didn’t know that perennial candidate Jack Wu was now writing columns for the O.C. Register until a friend of mine sent me a link to an article he wrote this week wherein he ripped Karina Onofre, the former Santa Ana City Council candidate who is now running for the 74th Assembly District as a resident of Irvine.
Apparently Wu reached out to Onofre, wanting to meet with her. But then this happened:
Onofre: “Jack, I’m so sorry, I won’t be able to make it. I am having dinner in Newport with some very powerful politicians.”
OK, she’s flaking on me because I’m not nearly fancy enough, and she’s found a more important fish to impress. Not the first time, nor the last.
So I asked, “Out of curiosity, who are you meeting with? Blowing off the press is never a good idea … especially when it’s an opinion writer…:-) Get back to me when you have time.”
Onofre did not take kindly to Wu’s implied threat – and that is exactly what it appeared to be. In fact the emoticon he used came off as a smokescreen. But Onofre’s reaction was a bit much – Onofre responded, “Excuse me? Jack, you must’ve misunderstood me, I was looking fwd to meeting you to share the details of my Assembly campaign, but with your chauvinistic tone and implied threat, I’m no longer interested in meeting you. Get lost! Until you learn to respect women, don’t contact me.”
Ouch. But was Wu really behaving like a professional columnist? I don’t think so. She said she could not meet with him. His only response should have been to try to set a different meeting date, period.
But let’s dig a bit deeper here. Wu is an interesting character. He ran for Irvine Mayor in 1998, as a Democrat according to Smart Voter. He lost. He ran for a Water Board in 2002 and lost again, according to Smart Voter. At some point he moved to Newport Beach where he ran for the City Council in 2006, and lost yet again, according to Smart Voter. Along the way he apparently morphed into a Republican – in fact you can click here to check out his OC GOP page where he lauds departed OC GOP Chairman Tom Fuentes.
I guess that Wu finally gave up running for office and instead started writing for the Register – where he is now bullying young female candidates who are clearly over their head.
I have to wonder if Wu has some other fish to fry? Is he backing someone else for this Assembly seat? I wish he had actually shown good faith and met with Onofre. Now that is a column I would have wanted to read. Instead we will never know. And I for one can’t blame Onofre. Let’s see who Wu ends up endorsing…my guess is he already has made up his mind.
[So I asked, “Out of curiosity, who are you meeting with? Blowing off the press is never a good idea … especially when it’s an opinion writer…:-) Get back to me when you have time.”]…………. Hmmmmmmmm
Based on the prior post RE KARINA here and Esq. Diamond’s interest in Karina’s address, it is my understanding that she was meeting with the powerful OC politicians Vern Nelson and Esq. Greg Diamond. Apparently the meeting was abruptly terminated when both Nelson and Diamond realized that theirs EBT charge cards were gravely overdrawn and Karina refuse their invitation to the iLeft soup kitchen special.
I feel sorry for Ms. Onofre. There is a saying” Beautiful women don’t belong in politics”. Being a good looking woman myself, I understand the adversity and dilemma that entails, when dealing with men who have huge egos and full of testosterone. This seems like the typical case of rejection/reaction, but that would mean that Mr. Woo hit on her and when she didn’t respond to his liking, he attacked her. I agree with you Art, How hard was it for him to reschedule? 😉 😉
How hard was it for him to reschedule?
mostly male shoves
Exactly. He had no reason to go full snide. That is no way to treat a young lady. Look for the ulterior motive…
Lol, with so many wolves in the GOP l doubt Onofre will win anyway being double minority, and Scott Baugh and his boys are a closed tight circle of white middle age men who get each other appointed, endorsed, and $supported. They’re like the mafia and will not help elect her, bc she’s a female and latin!
“They’re like the mafia and will not help elect her, bc she’s a female and latin!”………..Hmmmmmmmmmm
This is such a BS!
There is more Latinos, male and female, in the government than any other minority. The problem is that the alleged Latino minority is too stupid to govern into a prosperity. They have no clue about how to generate the wealth.
See what our magic Negro is doing to the USA and he is only 1/2 black.
