Huff to Host Town Hall on Affordable Care Act
Public Invited to Informational Meetings in Both Diamond Bar and Brea
SACRAMENTO: Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) will host two upcoming Town Halls on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in California, and how the new federal law will affect constituents in the 29th Senate District. Both events will feature presentations from representatives with Covered California and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The Town Halls will include information about how the ACA will affect California businesses and families, new health insurance options, the enrollment process and resources that are available to them.
The first Town Hall will take place on Wednesday, November 6th at the Diamond Bar Center on 1600 Grand Avenue in Diamond Bar from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. The second Town Hall is scheduled for Thursday, November 7th at Brea City Hall on 1 Civic Center Drive from 1:00-4:00 PM.
“It is safe to say that there is still quite a bit of confusion about Obamacare, and these Town Halls are designed to provide a little clarity on the subject,” said Senator Huff. “According to recent polling by the Kaiser Foundation, about one in three Americans say they don’t have enough information about the new health care law, many still don’t know that the new health care exchanges are open for business and half of those questioned don’t know who is going to pay for what.”
The Town Halls will feature presentations on the new health care exchanges from Suzanna Choi from Covered California and the California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce. Representatives from the SBA will also be in attendance to outline the impact of the federal health care law on small business and employees who are currently not covered under traditional health care plans.
According to Covered California, which is working throughout the state to educate residents about the ACA, more than 5.3 million Californians may be eligible to sign up for health care coverage through the new health care exchange, with 2.7 million eligible for subsidies from the federal government.
“This event is open to the public and will include a question and answer session,” said Senator Huff.
