Shirley L. Grindle, author of the county’s campaign finance law, sent an email to Supervisor Janet Nguyen on Thursday, advising Nguyen to return one of the two maximum contributions she received during her 2012 bid for supervisor: a $1,700 donation from the Orange County Employees Association PAC in 2009, or a $1,700 donation from the OCEA-funded California Citizens for Fair Government political committee in 2010, according to the O.C. Register.
Nguyen said in an email to the OC Register’s Watchdog last week that she didn’t know CCFG and CCFGW were funded by OCEA, but she did not feel misled and would have accepted their contributions regardless.
I don’t believe anything Nguyen says. She has to know where this money was coming from and she is betting that no one in her party will give a damn.
It would be crazy for the OCEA to keep funding Nguyen when the far more union -friendly Jose Solorio will be opposing her in 2014, for the 34th State Senate District. And taking money from a union is bound to make Nguyen unattractive to conservative voters.
This surely cannot end well for Nguyen.
