I am appalled to see that some of my fellow Libertarians are supporting accused murderer George Zimmerman, in the wake of the end of his trial for the killing of teenager Trayvon Martin.
As Libertarians we should be advancing the cause of civil rights and standing up against the racists in this country. The last thing we should do is echo the Republicans who are praising Zimmerman.
Facebook and Twitter continue to urge citizens to stand up for Trayvon Martin through protest: Sunday marks the National Blackout Day in angry response to Zimmerman’s freedom, according to Policymic.
Here are some of the demonstrations taking place around the country today, in opposition to the court ruling that freed Zimerman – and made it legal to stack and accost unarmed teens and shoot them to death:

The police told him NOT to follow Martin. He followed him anyway, causing an otherwise benign situation to escalate. Then he shot him point blank. What this country doesn’t need is vigilante justice. I sure wouldn’t want a George Zimmerman in my neighborhood.
he was told by an operator (not a cop) there was no need to follow. it was not legally binding. often similar lines are used by emergency operators so that they are not held legally responsible.
how was it vigilante? he shot him after a violent struggle and having his head bashed against concrete.
Zimmerman has since gotten in trouble several times and his wife dumped him.

Did you just imply that Libertarians should be against defending their lives and/or their property with lethal force?
If that’s the case. That would go against the premise of Liberty and the concept of Libertarianism.
Zimmerman was no a racist. And he was a minority too, just like Trayvon. The FBI investigated and determined that GZ had no history of racism in his past.
When I think of this case I consider it from the vantage of “what if it had been my little sister on neighborhood watch that night?” My sister would have followed him home or until he left the gated community. And if he had attacked her like he attacked GZ, I would expect that she would also have used lethal force. It’s common sense.
The very essence of being on neighborhood watch is to WATCH. To look for suspicious people acting in a suspicious or unusual manner. A unfamiliar young man, dressed like Ice Cube from NWA, high on drugs, walking around aimlessly, peering into windows in a gated community fits that description pretty well.
Responsible gun owners don’t go looking for trouble. That is what Zimmerman did. Remember that Martin and his family lived in that development. Zimmerman racially profiled him, stalked him and eventually killed him.
The idiot Zimmerman has now turned Martin into a powerful symbol that the Democrats will use to win again in 2014 and in 2016.
Libertarians should not support the Death Wish lifestyle of Zimmerman. Leave such stupidity to the Republicans.
Well, if Republicans did not celebrate this,I would have to wonder if leaving them after 15 years was wrong. Not all republicans are celebrating, but enough are that it is obvious that today’s GOTP is simply the old South. And increasingly there is spillover to the Libertarian party. For some reason, Libertarians are beginning to confuse the Tea Party as libertarian.
No idea if Zimmerman killed the kid in a fight, cold blooded, in an accident or otherwise. But it was a kid that was shot. Near his dad’s place. That is not a cause for celebration.
No matter how much the kid was a trouble maker markets school. Death by a stalking cop wannabe is not the legal punishment
