SANCHEZ APPLAUDS SENATE PASSAGE OF IMMIGRATION REFORM
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), a senior member of the Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement today following the Senate’s overwhelming passage of bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform.
“Today the possibility of implementing meaningful comprehensive immigration reform took a monumental step forward,” said Sanchez. “Creating a path to recognition for the millions of undocumented immigrants in this country, while continuing to build off the border security programs we have put in place over the last several years strikes a balance between fairness and security.
“As a senior member on the Homeland Security Committee, I take border security issues very seriously and knowing who is in our country is critical to our national security. That is why the Senate bill puts penalties in place for those who entered our country illegally, while bringing them out of the shadows.
“I urge Speaker Boehner and the House GOP Leadership to not play politics with comprehensive immigration reform and bring this resounding bipartisan bill to the floor for an up or down vote.”
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 46th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Santa Ana, and parts of the cities of Garden Grove and Orange in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces and the second ranked Democrat on the Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Sanchez is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Joint Economic Committee.
