Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido is calling for a meeting of his fellow
wizards mayors to “identify potential solutions on the issue of beach fire pits” next week in Diamond Bar. We’ve posted the complete letter which includes an invitation to tour the AQMD labs here.
One of our fellow Editors speculates Miguel may have an interest in a propane company, or is refilling tanks out of his muffler shop, but we have to wonder what he’s really up to here. Santa Ana lacks fire pits, a beach to put them on and plenty of other things — like libraries and an honest city council and administration. We’d speculate he’s up to something like trying to gin up support for the ridiculous position on the fire rings taken by AQMD Chairman William Burke, an appointee we’re reminded above by the Democrat Assembly Speaker. Burke’s already disgraced himself in the press with inappropriate analogies of the fire rings to the Vietnam War and was recently nudged or pushed or shoved off the Coastal Commission.
We especially noted the exclusivity of Pulido’s invitation — “Mayors Only” — so the meeting is apparently closed to the public, press and even his fellow SCAQMD Governing Board members which includes a number of heavyweight large County Supervisors like the OC’s Shawn Nelson and LA’s Mike Antonovich.
Closed door meetings on an issue that’s as public as this one’s become are a red flag. Pulido needs to explain himself and his intentions.
