I can’t recall the last time we saw so many of Orange County’s Democratic and Republican elected officials working together to advance the same cause. But that is exactly what happened today as State Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach) held a community rally today in Surf City to support the fire rings that AQMD Chairman William Burke and a bunch of NIMBY’s in Newport Beach are threatening.
Orange County legislators Assemblyman Allan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa) and Sen. Mimi Walters (R-Irvine), too, have spoken out against the ban, and have questioned the validity of some in favor of enacting it, according to the Daily Pilot – and the entire Orange County Board of Supervisors has voted to oppose the fire ring ban – except for Supervisor Shawn Nelson who is on the AQMD Board.
Orange Juice blogger Vern Nelson, a liberal, also put on a piano concert today in Huntington Beach in opposition to the ban on the fire rings. He was joined by historian Chris Epting and HB Mayor Connie Boardman.
I am also told that former Assemblyman Jose Solorio was at the HB rally today as well.
It is worth noting that Burke serves on the AQMD’s Board as the appointee of the Assembly Speaker, John Perez, a particularly odious liberal.
