We were struck with the honesty and clearly understandable facts and stats in this six minute excerpt from the always well done Wall Street Journal Editorial Report over the weekend. Fox News broadcasts the program.
The interview by Paul Gigot of Bjorn Lomborg makes one important thing clear — the $7,500 government credit for buying an electric car offsets only $44 of “carbon damage”. He says the zero-emission car’s manufacture is equivalent to the energy used from 80,000 driving miles of carbon dioxide production. Most of this comparison is from production of the battery itself.
Lomborg said electricity from wind and solar production now represents all of 0.8% and 0.1% of world production. He predicted that this production would total only 3% of world production by 2035.
“Green cars are not very green”, he said.
