From Scott Lay’s Nooner today, he speculates on who’s running for the 34TH Senatorial District:
SD34 (West Orange County, Correa, Toss-up)
- Garden Grove Planning Commissioner Joe DoVinh (D)
- Los Alamitos Councilmember Troy Edgar (R)
- Huntington Beach Councilmember Matthew Harper (R)
- Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen (R)
- Long Pham (R)
- Former Assemblymember Jim Silva (R)
- Former Assemblymember (now college board member) Jose Solorio (D)
Lay also writes he “wouldn’t expect Matt Harper to run in SD34 if Janet Nguyen does”. That’s correct — and she will compete despite the steaming turd she’s made of CalOptima and the dozens of former friends and contributors she’s alienated since her three-vote victory for 2nd District Supervisor.
And thanks for the grins on Troy Edgar, Scott. FAT CHANCE.
An analysis of Edgar’s performance in his run for Assembly showed that the better one knew Troy Edgar, the worse he did in the polls. Since much of the Senate seat covers the same area as the Assembly Seat did, and since Edgar lost in Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Westminster, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Midway City and all but a small portion of Santa Ana against a total unknown, it doesn’t bode well for him to run in the same area against candidates with a higher profile and a better chance of actually winning.
But then again, not a great deal of what Mr. Edgar does tends to make much sense, so who knows, maybe we will see Edgar throw his hat into the ring. It would be fun for entertainment purposes if nothing else.
We’d be surprised if Edgar has much money left. His contributors in 2012 won’t be fooled twice, and his kids’ college funds are spent.
