Breaking early this evening on an LA Times blog, this was enough to spoil dinner: Former O.C. Sheriff Carona wants prison sentence cut in half. Corona is looking for a reduction of his 66-month term to 24 to 30 months.
His attorneys are quoted by the Times (wonder if they’re still working for nothing?):
“Carona seeks relief on the ground that the Court erred in determining his sentence by using honest services fraud as the ‘underlying offense’ under United States sentencing guidelines,” his lawyers wrote in the motion filed earlier this month. They added that “the conduct at issue did not constitute honest services fraud or any other federal offense.”
We trust this falls into the FAT CHANCE file at the Court. Carona deserves every minute he was sentenced to, even tho he lucked out and is serving his time in a minimum-security Federal facility.
The last thing we need is the Little Sheriff creeping back to Orange County and looking for a job.
