Fourteen candidates ran for two seats on the Anaheim City Council in 2010. This time nine candidates have qualified for the ballot, including several that ran unsuccessfully in 2010 – John Leos, Linda Linder, Brian Chuchua and Rodolfo “Rudy” Ganoa. Chuchua was one of two Republican candidates endorsed by the OC GOP in 2010. They also endorsed Kris Murray, who won – and they backed Tom Tait, who won the Mayor’s race.
My favorite candidate this year is Duane Roberts, a community activist who has an expertise in civil rights, and has a degree in criminal justice. While he is not likely to win, I know he will do great in the candidates’ debates. Roberts will bring up the issues the other candidates are unwilling to talk about.
A familiar face is running this year – former Council Member Lucille Kring, who challenged State Senator Lou Correa in 2010 (click here to see her Facebook page). And a new Democratic candidate has emerged this year – Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Jordan Brandman, who used to work for Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly, who was accused this week in an anonymous letter of committing sexual harassment at work. Brandman and Daly are two peas in a pod – they are Democrats who pal around with Republicans. In terms of ideology, their biggest interest appears to be hiring their pals and wasting tax money in ridiculous ways. Daly was also know, when he was Mayor of Anaheim, for his distinctly anti-Latino and anti-poor bent.
There is also another new candidate in the race – former Santa Ana cop Steve Chavez Lodge. He was a member of the Santa Ana police union back in the day and he has drawn support from former Anaheim Mayor and current lobbyist Curt Pringle and his machine. Lodge is backed by SOAR – the PAC funded by Disney and local resort hotels – I am not sure the voters will want to support a guy with that kind of support given the recent unrest in Anaheim.
Leos and Brandman were pals in 2010 – but now Leos and Brandman are running against each other
Brandman and Lodge share pretty much the same supporters – marking them as the Pringle slate. I think it would be a terrible idea to hand the entire Anaheim City Council to the Pringle machine. He already has current Council Members Gail Eastman and Murray in his corner.
Leos almost won two years ago – and this time he has the support of popular Anaheim Mayor Tait.
Chavez Lodge’s brother is radio sports personality Roger Lodge, who is a pretty funny guy. Roger starred at Chave Lodge’s campaign kick-off last month. You can check out Chavez Lodge’s campaign Facebook page here.
Brandman is the youngest candidate running for the Anaheim City Council
Another new Anaheim City Council candidate this year is Jennifer Rivera, a law student.
I don’t see Rivera, Chuchua, Linder or Ganoa getting even close to winning. Tait’s endorsement of Leos puts him in a good position to win this year. Lodge and Brandman appear to have a lot of support and figure to spend a fortune. But Lodge was recently sued because of his use of the name “Chavez” on his ballot statement. Apparently while he was born a “Chavez” his mom later married a guy named “Lodge” and Steve dropped “Chavez” from regular use. If he can’t use “Chavez” on the ballot that could cost him some votes – and the whole mess is embarrassing.
As Chavez Lodge has no name I.D., and has not held office before, you have to figure that Leos and Kring have better odds of getting elected. Brandman could be in the mix too but he is taking a lot of heat for his position in support of a massive tax giveaway to an unpopular hotel developer. That issue could drag Lodge down as well.
I am personally endorsing Roberts and Leos for the Anaheim City Council this November.
Hmmm. Let’s see. First, I would do a little more research on Leos. He is not a county parole officer. (your’re close though). Oh, and just because he belongs to the union and has done union work, doesn’t make him a Dem union hack. Almost all county employees are union members, regardless of political affiliation. By your definition, no union member could ever run for an elected office. Rather illogical.
Brandman is nothing like Daly. Jordan ran for and won the school board seat rather handily. Daly, since becoming Clerk-Recorder, has declared to run for lots of things and has never followed through. I suspect Brandman, like Leos, knows how to cross the aisle to gain bi-partisan support on issues rather than polarizing the community like so many have done before them.
Good luck on your analysis. Mine is simple. These two have the best chance of taking seats, other than Kringle who, as you say, has great name ID and respect in the community.
As far as I know, Brandman, has only run for one or two offices and has always followed through, unlike Tom. Brandman, at least, has always followed through on his commitments to run, unlike Daly, and as far as I can see has done a good job on the school board. You attack the man for his political bent but you show know evidence, other than who he pals around with, of his ability (I did like the cute picture of him with the apron and his hands on his hips. That’s priceless).
You are right. Kring has the edge but I think these two will make this a horse race.
I love when MILF like Lucille Kring run for the office.
The sex brings procreation a hope!

Hey Stanley, where you been all day. Don’t tell us you were watching the game.
Well Jeff, the above political opinions expressed between you and admin are too intelligent and above my head so I am intimidated to join in.
You crack me up, dude. I’ve never been accused of neing highbrow before.
John Leos is a slug of a county employee who earned $65,546.43 in 10-11 for answering phones, filing paperwork, and attending to OCEA business on county time. He is a poster child for worker’s comp abuse as is his OCEA president. He hasn’t worked on the line in many years after getting a doctor to write up some really stupid work restrictions. Oh, and it not donuts, it’s constant trips to Bella’s Cafe…..he is nothing but an OCEA hack and is a Republican in name only.
