State Treasurer Bill Lockyer filed for divorce Friday, months after his wife’s affair with a methamphetamine addict and her own substance abuse problems became public, according to the Sacramento Bee.
At 5:10 p.m. Friday, after the divorce papers were filed, Nadia Lockyer was involved in a car accident near the couple’s home. Hayward Police Sgt. Eric Krimm said she was the sole occupant of the car when it knocked down a light pole before hitting a tree, according to the L.A. Times.
On Friday, after Bill Lockyer filed for divorce, Nadia Lockyer crashed her car outside the couple’s Hayward home, she said. She thought someone was following her and ran into a pole and a tree when she phoned her husband to report her suspicions, she said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Trouble between the Lockyers surfaced in February after Nadia Lockyer told police that the lover she had met in a chemical-dependency program had attacked her in a Newark hotel room. But the state Justice Department investigated and in April declined to charge him with any crime. For weeks, the tempestuous affair between Nadia Lockyer and Stephen Chikhani — a 35-year-old convicted felon from San Jose — unraveled in the media through a series of text messages, secret recordings and rumors of a sex tape, according to the Mercury News.
The Lockyers were a Democratic power couple at one time. Nadia came to prominence here in Orange County, as a former SAUSD School Board member and a past employee of U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez. Her political career is now all but over and her husband Bill, at 71 years of age, is just about done too. How the mighty have fallen.
UPDATE: Multiple sources are reporting that Nadia is moving back to Orange County.
