Irvine Council Member Steven Choi announced today on Facebook that he is “happy to announce that I’ve formed Team Irvine with Christina Shea and Lynn Schott. We’re united for victory in Irvine. Steven Choi for Mayor, Shea and Schott for City Council.”
Choi is running for Mayor against longtime Agranista Beth Krom, who got spanked in 2010 when she ran against U.S. Rep. John Campbell. In that election Krom got only 34.6% of the vote, while Campbell racked up 60% of the vote, according to Smart Voter.
Things could get worse for Krom this year as Choi is very popular in Irvine and Krom, a Democrat, is going to be stuck campaigning with unpopular President Barack Obama, who figures to win in California but is destined to fail in Orange County, after passing the largest tax increase in the history of our country – the dreadful ObamaCare.
Krom is also in hot water now that Governor Jerry Brown has killed redevelopment agencies all over the State. Now there is no money to finish building the Great Park. Krom is one of the Great Park members who has been busted time and again for refusing to share information with the other Great Park members. Choi in fact successfully sued after Krom and her Council colleague (and fellow Great Park Board Member) Larry Agran were not forthcoming about who they were trying to hire to run the Great Park.
It is readily apparent now that all the money Krom and Agran blew on plans for the Great Park is lost forever. Those plans are mostly in the garbage can now. And all the money they blew on public relations is gone forever too.
Schott came very close to winning a seat on the Irvine City Council in 2010, losing by just a few percentage points. She got over 18,600 votes according to Smart Voter. The good news that year was that Jeff Lalloway won that year – but so did Agran.
Shea previously served on the Irvine City Council, termed out and is back again. She would form a formidable voting bloc with Lalloway, Choi and Schott. And even better – if they all win the Agranistas are finished!

Let’s hope the OC GOP gets behind this slate this year. They screwed over Lynn Schott the last time around, and probably cost a chance at getting a Board majority in Irvine.
Scott Baugh needs to get in the game and get over whatever caused him to screw her over last time. Surely the GOP is good for something.
It’s time to retire the Agranistas — all the points you’ve made are valid, and Irviners need to bite the bullet and realize their damn Park will amount to nothing. In fact, maybe it oughta go on the ballot _again_ to figure out what it IS useful for. Even Developers like Emile Haddad have had it with the Agranistas as they can’t get anything going — so hopefully, maybe their money finds its way to the Republicans this time around.
