Republicans quickly accused President Barack Obama of pandering to Latino voters after he moved late last week to stop the deportation of young immigrants provided that they get an education or join the military.
It was an obvious attempt to shore up his base but the Dreamers need to remember that the Obama administration administration deported a record number of illegal immigrants for three straight years, according to the L.A. Times.
Granted, of the 396,906 deportations from October 2010 through September of 2011, more than half were illegal immigrants with felony or misdemeanor convictions, which all of us should applaud, but the rest of these folks were just trying to survive. In some cases families were deported even though their kids were born here.
And Obama has overseen the destruction of our economy, which has seen hundreds of thousands of Americans go without jobs while all of us have lost 40% of our net worth.
No Latino voters should vote for Obama. But I don’t think we ought to vote for the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, either. If anything he will be even worse than Obama on so many issues, including immigration, the drug war, and civil rights.
There is another option. If you take a look at the Libertarian Party’s Presidential ticket, of former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson and V.P. nominee Judge Jim Gray, is on the right side of every issue that matters to voters overall, particularly Latinos. They believe in real immigration reform, ending the drug war, and stopping the waste of our money in D.C. They will end our wars and limit the size of our bloated government. They will support freedom, which is what drew us to this country in the first place.
If you are looking for more handouts and a socialist economy, vote Obama. If you want a government that is more concerned with starting new wars and snooping in your bedroom, vote for Romney. If you value liberty you really have only one choice – Johnson and Gray. Don’t be fooled by Obama’s pandering.
