Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) issued a press release today praising the “reversal today of the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) decision that the first phase of the Bay Area-to-Southern California high-speed rail system would have its southern terminus near downtown Los Angeles rather than in Orange County.”
The release noted that “The Authority announced today that Anaheim will indeed be the southern terminus of the first phase as planned. Recently deemed too expensive in a revised business plan draft, the Anaheim inclusion is now possible due to new cost-effective measures the Authority approved today.”
This is hardly worth celebrating, in reality, as the High-Speed Rail line is a total lie. It is not going to be high speed; it is not going to have enough riders; and we the taxpayers are going to get stuck subsidizing it to the tune of millions, if not billions. It is in short a terrible idea hatched by crazy Democrats who appear hellbent on completely bankrupting the State of California.
Here is Solorio’s press release:
State Assemblyman Solorio Ecstatic with California High-Speed Rail Authority Reversal
Anaheim Back on the High-Speed Rail Map!
Sacramento – State Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) released the following statement regarding the reversal today of the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) decision that the first phase of the Bay Area-to-Southern California high-speed rail system would have its southern terminus near downtown Los Angeles rather than in Orange County. The Authority announced today that Anaheim will indeed be the southern terminus of the first phase as planned. Recently deemed too expensive in a revised business plan draft, the Anaheim inclusion is now possible due to new cost-effective measures the Authority approved today.
“I am pleased and grateful that the high-speed rail authority put Anaheim back on the map! The Orange County Business Council, myself and many others made the case this week to high-speed rail Chairman Dan Richard that Anaheim, with its many tourist attractions and large population, is worthy of getting a high-speed rail stop. Keeping Anaheim as the southern anchor would be good for ridership and good for the economy.
I also shared with Chairman Richard that there have been past legislative efforts, including my own, to designate Anaheim as the southern end point in the first phase, and that the Authority should honor that commitment. Apparently he agreed. I appreciate that Chairman Richard listened to our concerns, and found a cost-effective way to get high-speed rail to Anaheim.”
State Assemblyman Jose Solorio is the Chair of the Assembly Insurance Committee and serves on the Assembly Appropriations and Transportation committees.
